Yate 4 Falmouth 2

Falmouth made another trip to Bristol this time to play Yate who are currently in second place in the West Premier 2 League.

They started the game positively and moved the ball around effectively but unfortunately conceded 20 minutes into the game. Falmouth pulled together and fought back with winger Rachael Tatlow crossing the ball into the 'D' which Vic Rushton controlled on her reverse side to smash in an equaliser.

At the start of the second half, Yate changed formation and gained two goals in quick succession. Player of the match Fay Robinson made some well timed tackles and supported the attacking play however Yates defence was solid.

Following a spurious decision by the umpire, goalkeeper Grace Rudlin faced a penalty flick which took the score to 4-1. Once again Yate committed more players forward to attack and won a penalty corner, right back Jean Phillips went in for a strong tackle which the umpire decided was worthy of a second penalty flick. This time Rudlin's presence between the posts forced the striker to send the ball wide. Falmouth's fighting spirit prevailed and they won a penalty corner. Centre back Terri Barbery-Redd stepped up to strike a fast paced ball directly at goal, Rushton reacted quickly to the rebound with a skilful flick to score her second for Falmouth and result in the final score of 4-2.

On Saturday Falmouth are at home to Redland at Penair at 12noon Falmouth: Grace Rudlin, Terri Barbery-Redd, Jean Phillips, Hanna Royle, Kat Barbery-Redd, Philippa Eddy, Fay Robinson, Lucy Taylor, Rachael Tatlow, Vic Rushton, Katrina Thomas

Falmouth II 1 Tavistock 3

Falmouth hosted Tavistock who are currently in second place in Trelawney League 1. The visitors dominated the early part of the match but the Falmouth defence denied them several opportunities with Jess Lambert making goal line clearances. Midway through the first half Gill Lister made the break through when she finished off a rebound after Amy Tatlow had crossed the ball from the right. Tavistock fought back to level the score before half time.

The second half again saw end to end hockey with both teams having chances. Falmouth nearly took the lead from a penalty corner but the ball very narrowly missed the top of the backboard. With an injury to Charlie Casey-Haden Falmouth were unable to continue using rolling subs and as the legs began to tire Tavistock took their opportunity to go into the lead. As Falmouth pressed to find the equaliser Tavistock broke through again to score their third goal. On Saturday Falmouth ll are away to Bodmin at The Dragon leisure Centre at 1.45pm Falmouth: June Moore, Becky Luke, Amanda Wills, Sam Dunstan, Lori Kaack, Amy Walker, Gillian Lister, Emma Venton, Charlie Haden-Casey, Amy Tatlow, Laura Percy, Jess Lambert Plymouth Marjons III 9 Falmouth III 0 A depleted Falmouth side travelled to Plymouth to put up a fair fight against Marjon III. The Falmouth line-up included two making their debut and a second outing as keeper for joint player-of-the-match Claire Rabey.

Falmouth conceded five mins into the first half and things could have gone seriously downhill for the visitors if it hadn’t been for their determination to minimise the scoreline. The half time score was 6-0 and would have been greater but for the hard work of Sophie Clarke and the other half of the player-of-the-match duo Hannah Whear. Kate McMillan had the never- ending task of pressuring the home side's defence while they switched the ball around the pitch and continued to do a good job of it for the whole game. The three-strong defence worked hard to help Rabey, who made some solid clearances, but the overload of opposition players opened so many options for the home side that Falmouth couldn’t keep them at bay.

Although disappointing to lose what should have been a win- able match, Falmouth worked hard individually and as a team.

Next week the team are at home to Mannamead III at Penair at 1.30pm.

Falmouth: C Rabey, J Coleman, R Moore, H Walker (c), S Wilkinson, S Clarke, H Whear, F Bates, K McMillan.
