Porthleven FC are set to strengthen their attacking options this week with the signing of former Helston Athletic striker Reg Pearson.

Port boss Kevin Richards is hoping the striker can join the squad in time for their next match on Saturday, against Perranporth - ironically the club Pearson is set to leave to join the Fishermen.

Port have been short of striking options since the turn of the year when their leading scorer Dan Stidwell left, to join Jolly’s Combination League side Helston Athletic, and strike partner Alan Thomas departed to re-join Falmouth-Helston Football League side St Keverne.

Mikey Davies and Lee Bradd came in to fill the void up front, but both players have also left Gala Parc in recent weeks.

It has left Port without a recognised striker up front and suffering from a dip in form, which has seen them pick up only nine points from a possible 21 in the league in 2011.

However, Pearson is likely to add a bit more zip to the Port attack.

He formed an excellent partnership with Neil Southall for Helston in the Jolly’s Combination League last year helping the club become the top scorers that season.
