Duchy concluded their 2010-11 season with the Ladies 1st XI contesting an entertaining 0-0 draw in a friendly match with St Austell.
With the visitors arriving with only ten players, Duchy's Lisa Topsey pulled on a St Austell shirt to level the numbers and ensure a competitive match, with the home side determined to perform after a disappointing result in their previous match against Caradon II.
The opening ten minutes were dominated by St Austell, with Duchy looking shaky early on, and with the visitors maintaining possession well, a tough test was provided or the home defence.
The Duchy back four of Walker, Holding, Islip and Luke performed solidly however, with the on-loan Grace Rudlin having only two saves to make to keep the score level. Despite looking threatening, Duchy were unable to convert and went into the interval with the score all square although continued to trouble the visitors in the second period.
St Austell created chances of the their own during the second half, looking dangerous on the counter attack and further testing the Duchy back line, although the Saints were again frustrated as the home defence stood firm, with Rudlin having only a handful of regulation stops to make.
The final five minutes saw The Black-and-Whites play their best hockey of the day, using the width of the pitch to stretch the St Austell midfield and create opportunities to score, only to be denied by several flying saves from the visiting keeper.
Duchy Squad: Rudlin (gk), Walker, Islip, Luke, Holding, Parton, Perrin, Johnson, Pellow, Everitt, Harrison, Perkin. Man of the Match, sponsored by GoGreen Renewable Energy: Becky Luke
