A memorial to one of Cornwall’s most famous footballers, Tony Kellow, is being planned for the village of Budock.

Tony, who died at the age of 58 in February, grew up in Budock before enjoying prolific football league career with Exeter City, Blackpool, Plymouth and Swansea.

The news of his death saddened the village along with his lifelong friends who are now working with his family to try and get a memorial to him.

Keith Rashleigh and Rex Sadler are the main organisers and they are planning to get an inscribed stone, with the details of his playing record and a picture of him scoring a goal, erected in the village playing fields.

Terry and Marie Coleman, of the Granite Workshop Factory have donated a considerable amount towards the cost of the stone and the idea has already got the support of John Bastin, Budock’s parish council chairman.

Exeter City supporters group is also offering their support and have suggested sending a team down to play a friendly against Falmouth Town when the Memorial is ready to be placed.
