Falmouth Town recorded back-to-back victories in the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League when they beat Torpoint Athletic on Wednesday night.

Falmouth were made to work hard for the win as second from bottom Torpoint never gave up despite being reduced to ten men after 60 minutes.

The game started at a fast pace, with Falmouth taking the lead after just six minutes.

Matt Drummond played a ball to Mark Vercesi, in a crowded Torpoint penalty area. A defender stuck out an arm to deflect the ball away and Falmouth were awarded a penalty, which Vercesi blasted past Ben Elphick.

The lead only lasted three minutes though as a poor back pass by Lee Rundle fell to Brian Stacey, who placed a shot past Town's keeper Marc Rose.

After 22 minutes Falmouth forced two successive corners and from the second of these Vercesi rose above everyone to power a header into the back of the net and restore Town's lead.

The second half was only ten minutes old when home keeper, Elphick launched a long kick up field which left the Town defence stranded as Sam Stevens ran ont to the ball and fired a shot into the corner the net.

Four minutes later Falmouth were back in front as Ian Hodges collected a pass of Dan Green and played a low cross for Dan Magee to shoot past the keeper from ten yards out.

A minute after Torpoint had Guy Downey sent-off for a second bookable offence after he had fouled Vercesi.

Green extended Twon's lead after 70 minutes when he got on the end of a Drummond pass and shot home from 12 yards.

Five minutes from time Hodges got his first goal of the season as he rose high to head home from close in following Magee's right wing cross.

Torpoint never gave up and got their third goal in the 88th minute when Stephens headed home a free kick at the near post.
