Falmouth Town boss Alan Carey admitted his side is ‘really looking forward to’ Saturday’s crunch FA Vase tie with Buckland Athletic on Saturday and called for his players to get the job done on the day.

Town suffered a disappointing exit from the FA Cup at the hands of Bodmin Town in August, so the FA Vase represents the only other national competition they can progress in this season. However, they face a tricky tie, in the first round proper, as Buckland are the current Carlsberg South West Peninsula League premier division champions.

“It is a big, big tie,” said Carey. “It is a competition you want to be in. It is disappointing that we have drawn Buckland at an early stage, and unfortunately for Buckland they have drawn us, but it is a competition we want to go far in.”

Town enter the match on excellent form having scored 27 goals in the four games they since they dispatched of Minehead in the FA Vase second qualifying round on September 24. Buckland have been equally impressive. They have not lost in the league yet this season and have only conceded five goals in nine premier division games. However on their last visit to Falmouth Town in March, Buckland fell to a 3-2 to defeat and Carey admits his players have to take confidence from that match.

“Buckland are an extremely good side and they don’t give much away, but we have got to take something from the fact that we beat them last season and have a very good record against them at home. The players will certainly be going into the match in the frame of mind that we are capable of beating them.”

It is all set up for a blockbuster clash at Bickland Park on Saturday. Kick-off for the FA Vase match is 3pm.
