An 84th minute strike from Matt Fox gave Porthleven their sixth win of the season as they beat struggling Holsworthy 3-2 at Gala Parc.

Port had looked to be cruising to victory when they led 2-0 at half-time, but lapses in concentration in the second half saw their north Devon level the scores.

John Dent had two new signings in his starting 11. Chris Morris, who has returned to the club following a long injury lay-off was named up front alongisde Rob Carey, while Ed Timmons started at full back having come back to Gala Parc from Hayle.

The game started slowly with neither side creating any real clear-cut chances. However it was a good crossfield ball from Morris on 36 minutes that finally broke open the visiting defence. Fox picked up the pass and jinked his way into the box before being brought down.

Port goalkeeper Paul Williams, normally known for his penalty saves, stepped up to take the spot-kick and scored.

Dominic Batchelor, who put in a man-of-the-match performance in midfielde then played a ball into the path of Carey, who beat the Holsworthy keeper to the ball before rounding him and placing a shot into an empty net to give the home side a comfortable half-time advanatage.

Defender Lee Cattran should have put Port further in front minutes into the second half, but he headed Fox’s cross over.

Holsworthy were then back in the match as Dean Chidley and Phil Kelly set up Lee Morgan with a chance to shoot and he hammered a shot past Williams.

Moments later Port lost the ball in their own half, which allowed Morgan to run in and score his second of the match.

However, Port hit back and with four minutes left Batchelor played a superb 35-yard pass into the path of Fox.

He thenraced in on goal before rounding the keeper to fire home.
