Redruth were beaten by six tries to two on their first visit to Hatpury College, writes Ed Bawden.

Redruth started well and led for 35 minutes, but failed to take their chances and fell away in the second half.

The College based north of Gloucester just outside the village of Maisemore have excellent facilities and on a cold clear, still day conditions were ideal for rugby.

Tom Duncan again carried strongly for the reds and his work carried on by Richard Brown led to Craig Bonds going over for a try after nine minutes.

Redruth had the better of play with Chris Bailey going well in the second row but they were unable to take their chances including a knock on on the line.

Hartpury started to build pressure on the reds as the interval approached and Skipper Nathan Thomas went over for a try converted by Craig Jackson after 35 minutes. On the stroke of half time some good play from another former Welsh international Darren Morris led to a try for Rob Dempsey to see the hosts lead 12-5 at the break.

Hartpury put the Reds under pressure from the start of the second half and after a couple of near misses Gareth Knox went over for a try again improved by Jackson.

Thomas and Morris were influencing play along with the strong running of Seb Rodwell and Brendon Walker as Hartpury ran in further tries by Glen Lewis (2) and Walker, all converted by Jackson.

Midway through the second half another teenager Mike Allen came on to make his reds debut in the second row and showed good hands in the line out.

In the final play of the game Redruth got some reward for keeping going when a run by Duncan led to a try in the right hand corner by Dean Bonds.
