John Mitchell has stepped down as manager of Perranporth FC, with immediate effect.

The manager, who has suffered with limited resources in the Carlsberg SW Peninsula League divsion one west this season, announced the decision following a meeting with the club's comittee on Wednesday.

He started the season off with just three players, following a summer exodus from the club.

The team has won just two of their 27 games this season and Mitchell admitted he had lost the enthusiam for the job.

The final straw came a week last Saturday when the manager had to call on five reserve team players for an away match at Helston.

Kevin Barnes will take over as manager for the rest of the season.

Writing on Cornwallfootballfourm.com, Mitchell, said: "I would like to thank the 10 or so regular players who have stuck with me all season despite defeat after defeat. They didn't once complain, most of them being youngsters who had never played this level but were prepared to step up whilst the so called superstars hid away.

"They have come a long way this season and I wish them the best for the future they have been a credit to themselves and done themselves proud."
