Falmouth Town Reserves go into one of the biggest games of their season on Easter Sunday when they take on St Just in the final of Jolly’s Combination League Cup.

Town are looking to win the competition for only the second time in their history, having comprehensively beaten local rivals Penryn Athletic Reserves in the semi-finals on Sunday, March 18.

Falmouth are currently the form team in the Combination League having gone the last 24 games unbeaten.

It is a run that has taken them to the top of the division and within touching distance of a League and Cup double.

However, Town’s manager Paul Murray is wary of the threat St Just will pose in their bid to claim the first piece of that historic double.

“They (St Just) are a very, very good side,” said Murray. “Steve Curnow has got them well organised. They are a physical side, but they can play football as well. Neil Curnow in the middle of the park is a handful and Darren Steadman up front is as well.

“St Just will be up for the game as it is their only realistic chance they have of getting some silverware this season. So they will want to win it, as we do as well. But we are going to have to be at our very best to beat them.”

Murray is also concerned that he could be without one or two players for the match over the Easter Holidays.

First team call-ups have disrupted his selection in recent weeks, forcing the manager to name himself as a emergency striker for his side’s 3-0 win against Holman SC on Saturday.

However, Murray does welcome back two players from University for the game in Luke Appleton and his son Luke Murray and is optimistic that he will have a strong squad to choose from.

“Obviously the first team takes priority and as a second team manager you have to accept that,” he said. “If three or so players get called up to the first team, for their game on Friday, then it will effect who I can select for Sunday, but I’m hoping they (the first team) will have plenty of cover.”

St Just currently sit 21 points behind Falmouth in the table, making Paul Murray’s side the favourites to pick up the League Cup. However, if history is anything to go by St Just have the upper hand. The club has played Falmouth twice before in the final of the competition, beating them in 2004 and 2005. They have also won the competition six times and been losing finalists on two occasions. The match will be played as Illogan RBL’s Oxland Parc, with a 3pm kick-off.
