DOMINQUE Williams, who recently won the Cornwall Schools Under 13 Girls table tennis event will be Cornwall’s representative in the English Schools Championships.

The Falmouth School number one and current Cornwall Cadet Champion finished in second place this week in the South West Under 13 Girls Championships held at Plymouth’s Eggbuckland Centre.

She finished behind Devon number one, Bella Payne, but ahead of Devon number two Holly Johns and Somerset number one Chloe Arlow, as well as the rest of the region’s top girls.

Table-tennis is booming at the moment, with participation levels thought to be in excess of 100,000 nationwide.

A number of Falmouth youngsters also made the trip to Plymouth and fared exceptionally well.

Freya Tuffery gave her best performance of the season finishing fourth in the Girls Under 14 event and along with Williams, who finished third in the same event, she qualifies for the English Closed competition in June at Birmingham.

Also on her way to Birmingham is Chloe Parsons, from Falmouth, who finished third in the Girls Under 12 event.

Jack Contis and Morgan Cardell faced the South West’s elite for the first time, but both played very well and will be back next season when they will be more experienced.

Lilly Owen, Chloe Crilly and Matilda Dickens-Williams also gave a good account of themselves.

Dylan Tynar at just seven years of age was the tournament’s youngest player and came desperately close to qualifying in the Boys Under 11 event.

At Doncaster the competition will be even tougher with all of England’s leading girls being present.
