Helston and Mullion currently lie at either end of the division two table and the gulf was evident as Helston convincingly won the derby at Garro Lane by the big margin of 161 runs.
It puts Helston at the top of the table, though Stithians have a game in hand and are only four points behind. Mullion meanwhile are in danger of being cut adrift at the bottom as they trail Paul seconds by fifteen points.
Helston were lacking Justin Matthews at the top of the order but it didn’t matter. Josh Ninnis got things off to a lively start hitting four boundaries before being caught off Steve Green. Dan Jenkin then dominated the innings making 118 not out. He put on 108 with Chris Martin (50) for the second wicket. Mark Thomas then made an unbeaten 44 as the pair put on an unbroken 109 for the third wicket. Jenkin hit three sixes and nine fours off 120 balls.
Such was Helston’s domination they were able to declare with eight overs unused. It proved a wise move, with the weather around, as the home side slumped to 19 for six.
Daniel Johnson gave some respectability making 22 not out and Michael Cockings and Ed Langley both got double figures Peter Boyd bowled an exceptional spell taking five for 18 from 11.2 overs. Tyler Lambert, back in the team, took three for 18 from nine overs and Dan Jenkin completed a fine game with two for 11. Helston complete the first half of the season at home to Redruth seconds on Saturday while Mullion travel to Rosudgeon.
