Since last appearing in the Packet back in March, Cornwall Shinty Club have came along way, by gaining a fantastic new sponsorship deal with Unique Ecofuels, a new home at the New Inn, Mabe.
However, most importantly they have happily travelled 1,700 miles to play shinty. April 21, represented a historical encounter when Cornwall Shinty Club travelled to Somerset for their first game for the best part of a century - returning with the Shinty Shop challenge cup after a tightly fought draw with London Camanachd.
The following weekend Tremough Campus held the Community Games where they hosted an exhibition match, before setting off to Scotland for a festival of shinty in St Andrews over the May bank holiday weekend.
While at St Andrews Cornwall Shinty Club completed in their first twelve aside match where in a tightly fought contest they lost 3-2 to St Andrews University. During the tournament the following day the group stages saw the emphatic reverse with crushing defeats over two St Andrews teams, including a 7-0 victory over one of them.
This set up an all or nothing final group game against Glasgow Islanders to which Cornwall sadly lost to the eventual winners. Hayley Goacher emerged as the clubs top goal scorer that weekend.
Last Sunday Cornwall Shinty Club held a training match. The club was divided equally between Captain Matt Mossop and special guest the captain of London Camanachd Graham Love. The match ended 6-0 to the side captained by Mossop with a hat-trick being scored by Craig Holt, two goals from Annan Birkett the eventual man of the match and a goal from Chris Harry.
Love’s keeper Ben Birkett made some wonderful saves to keep to make sure the match only ended 6-0.
