Falmouth Town manager Alan Carey was full of praise for his team as they fought-back from 2-0 down to draw with Torpoint in the opening game of the new CSWPL premier division season.

Carey's team had the better of the first half, but went 2-0 down early in the second half due to some defensive errors. However Falmouth, who named a number of youngsters in their starting eleven, battled back.

Mark Vercesi made it 2-1 as he curled a 30-yard free-kick into the top corner and then in injury time Wayne Quinn rescued a point with another well struck free-kick.

Speaking after the game, Carey, said: "I'm really pleased with everyone’s performance, it has got to be a point gained for us really after the poor start to the second half.

"Overall I thought there was some good work rate from us. It is a young side, there are some boys in there who are learning. Rob Wearne has come in to  the side at 17, 18 years of age, he has made his debut at this level today, and I thought his work rate was very high.

"Lewis Caspell is coming back from injury,  Karl Turner is coming back from injury. The boy who came up from the second team, Jamie Webb, I thought was tremendous for us, so there are a lot of positives."

Despite the positives, the game was slightly marred by the angry reactions of some of the Torpoint supporters and staff at the award of the late free-kick that gave Falmouth the equaliser.

Mark Vercesi appeared to have been pushed over on the edge of the box, but travelling fans were unhappy with the decision to award the free-kick and confronted the officials after the final whistle.

Asked if he thought the award for a free-kick was fair, Carey, added: “You have got to appreciate that I’m 60-yards away from it. The linesman was in line with it and the linesman has given it.

"The only thing I will say in defence is that I’ve had plenty of them go against me over the years and over the season they will balance themselves out. Cheesy (Mark Vercesi) thinks it was a free-kick, the guy definitely pushed him down. I would probably be aggrieved if we had lost the game, like they just lost the game, but that is football I’m afraid."
