Truro City's Barry Hayles has signed for Southern League premier division side St Albans.

The news will come as a blow to supporters of the White Tigers, who saw Hayles score 26 goals in 63 appearances for the club - a scoring record that helped them get promoted from the Southern League premier division to the Conference South.

However, on his Twitter account last night (Monday), Hayles told his Truro City teammates that he had spoken to manager Lee Hodges and been told that a deal could not be agreed for him at Treyew Road.

Truro City's loss is St Albans' gain and their manager David Howell was delighted the former Fulham striker had agreed to join their club.

Speaking on the club's website Howell, said:  "After weighing up all his options, Barry has decided that St Albans City represent the best option for him to achieve something significant as his career winds down, I am delighted we have persuaded him to join.

"He's still a very fit guy and as well as goals, Barry will bring a lot of nous," said Howell. "It means that we now have experience and leadership right through the side, though defence, midfield and attack, to go with the youth and energy we also possess.

"Barry has the potential to be a talisman for us and will hold the ball up front. Young Lewis Toomey should certainly benefit from his presence. We now have good options in every department."
