Penryn paid the price for their inaccurate kicking during this tight opening fixture in the Tribute Western Counties (West) on Saturday.
The visitors failed to convert four penalties and two conversions during this hotly contested tie at the Memorial Ground.
Mike Cox gave the visitors the lead, going over after a quickly taken penalty. Adam Bradley added the conversion to make it 7-0.
Penryn’s response was immediate as Jamie Martin notched up an individual score from inside his own half to make the score 7-3 but a penalty kick from Bradley extended the visitors lead to 10-3 at half-time.
Penryn refused to lie down and were rewarded when Martin went over for a try early in the second half to level the score at 10-10.
Ian Davies put the visitors back in front with an unconverted try after being set up by first team debutant Jon Morgan before Bradley made amends for missing the earlier try conversion with a penalty to extend the visitors lead to 18-10. However Gavin Laycock’s late penalty was enough to secure a losing bonus point for Penryn, making the final score 18-13.
