Falmouth One & All 15 Pts Penzance Amateurs 53 Pts

After a promising start to the season with a comprehensive win against Camelford, the One & All came down to earth with a bump against a strong Pirates Reserves.
The scheduled game against St Just was cancelled as they could not raise a side and at the last hour Penzance took the fixture at the Recreation ground.
The opening exchanges were lively with both sides attacking at every opportunity, but it was Penzance who got off the mark with a counter attack from deep in their own half, resulting in a seven
pointer. They were quick to increase their lead with a purple patch in which they scored another three tries with some excellent individual skills and support play.
At 24-0 the game evened out with Falmouth attacking with purpose and spirit but the visitors defence was sound and turnovers hurt the home team especially as
the pirates counter attacked at every opportunity to run in another two tries. At the half time whistle the score line was 36-0 and the result never in doubt.
The half time team talk must have had some effect as Falmouth came out for the second half fired up with some tenacious tackling in defence and some direct and strong running from Pet Collett and
Ben (`Betty` )Bettison in attack. It was from a mid field break by Pete Collett that Falmouth`s first points came with a try under the posts. Jack Potts missed the sitter with some embarrassment
and Penzance hit back with two more tries to bring the score to 46-5.
The `One & All` never dropped their heads and were rewarded with tries from Ben Bettison and captain Leigh Head who lead from the front for all the game.
Newcomer Sean Gardener had an outstanding game turning ball over and generally making a nuisance of himself whenever Penzance had possession and colts Alex Bullock, Ed Alldis and Jason Burke all acquitted themselves well. Even though this was a heavy defeat many positives came out of the game and we were delighted to host the game and provide rugby for all that played. The `One & All` play Veor Vickings reserves in the Merit table next week in Camborne.
