Miller wonder-goal helps Helston see off St. Austell

Helston Atheltic's James Miller scored a 25-yard screamer to help the blues overcome Peninsula Premier League side St. Austell and book their place in the next round of the Throgmorton Cup.

A penalty from Mark Goldsworthy and a lobbed effort from Liam Eddy put Helston 2-0 up at the break.

But St Austell battled their way back into the tie, and a late goal from player-manager Dan Nancarrow put Helston nerves on edge, until Miller's strike ten minutes from time.

The substitute, on for Jordan Adlard in the second-half, picked up the ball 25-yards out before unleashing a swerving drive that flew over St. Austell keeper Jason Peters and into the top corner, sealing the win.

Helston made a bright start to the game, and were a goal up on eight minutes when striker Mark Goldsworthy was hacked down in the box.

Goldsworthy stepped up to slot away his fifteenth of the season from the penalty spot.

And things got worse for the Lilywhites on ten minutes when Liam Eddy raced clear of a pedestrian St Austell back line before lobbing keeper Jason Peters to put the home side two goals to the good.

St Austell fought their way back into the game in the second half and were duly rewarded for their efforts when Nancarrow popped up at the back post to gather a loose ball and rifle a shot into the bottom corner.

But in truth the visitors never really troubled the blues at the back, and Miller's wonder goal mintes from the final whistle sealed what was a deserved win.

Helston will now play Falmouth Town's Friday night vanquishers Penzance in the next round.

The Magpies came from 2-0 down to beat Town 4-3 at Penlee Park.
