SCRUM-HALF Tom Kessell said his focus remains on the task at hand with the Cornish Pirates before thinking about playing against Canada.

Alongside his team-mate Darren Barry, the 24-year-old has been included in the Greene King IPA Championship squad to take on the national team at Worcester on November 2.

The Cornish-native said being selected is a great reward for his early season form, which has seen him score four tries.

But he added his thoughts are purely on things going on at the Mennaye for now.

Kessell said: “It is an awesome feeling to get picked for the Championship side and I know it will be a great experience to be a part of.

“But I still have a job to do with the side here and that is where my focus is.

“We had a tough start to the season, but we have won our last three games now and there is no easy game in either the league or cup, so we just need to keep plugging away.”

He went onto say he has not sought advice yet from either of his Canadian colleagues, Matt Evans and Aaron Carpenter, in the Pirates squad about how to play against the team.

However, Kessell said he knows there is a lot of talent he will be coming up against at Sixways.

“Canada have some great players,” he said.

“You just have to look at the fact that Matt Evans played against New Zealand at the last World Cup to see the sort of experience they have.

“It is still a bit early to be trying to get tips from Matt or Aaron, but I’m sure they’ll be a bit of joking going on before and after the match, whatever the outcome.”
