Penzance eased to a 3-0 win over SWPL Division One rivals Porthleven at Penlee Park last night (Friday), in the opening match of this year's Dave Gardner Memorial Tournament.
The Magpies, with former Porthleven boss, John Dent, at the helm, opened the scoring though Jamie Payne, and two further goals saw the hosts race into a 3-0 half-time lead.
More than 100 supporters attended the game, but neither side were able to add to the goal tally in the second half.
Today, (Saturday), Helston Athletic host Falmouth Town at Kellaway Park - the team the Blues beat 3-0 in last year's final.
Now in its ninth year, the tournament is played in honour of defender Dave Gardner, who died aged 36 in 2003.
Fixtures: Saturday, July 27: Helston v Falmouth Town (3pm); Tuesday, July 30: Porthleven v Helston (7.30pm); Wednesday, July 31: Penzance v Falmouth Town (7.30pm); Saturday, August 3: Finals' day at Helston: Falmouth Town v Porthleven (2pm); Helston v Penzance (5pm).
