A FIVE wicket haul for Andrew Bowden mixed with a destructive 70 not out from Richard Bannister saw St Gluvias’ second team beat Truro’s third 11 on Saturday.

Stand-in skipper Sam Duckham, taking the captain’s armband from the injured Kevin Hawke, won the toss and elected to field first at Kernick Road.

Bowden picked up his first wicket just as Truro looked to be making a steady start having reached 28. It was Simon Burrell who was his victim, being caught by Matt Ambrose for eight.

The hosts picked up wickets on regular occasions as Truro could not put a partnership of more than 37 together.

The pick of the dismissals was a brilliant one handed caught and bowled by Mark Snowden which sent Stuart McNair back to the pavilion for 15.

It was left to Bowden to pick up the last four wickets as he finished with figures of five for 36, with the visitors total ending on 139.

St Gluvias made light work chasing the target with victory coming after 20.2 overs.

This was mainly thanks to Bannister who made the most of any bad ball sent down to him. He was ably backed up by Snowden, who scored 36 not out, as he got the Saints over the line.

The pick of his shots included two big sixes hit straight back over the bowler’s head, which went soaring over the trees at either end of the ground.
