PERRANARWORTHAL thought they had a win against Division Three West leaders Troon seconds in the bag on Saturday when they had them at 56-5 chasing 144.

But there chance of an upset was blown out of the water by a fantastic stand of 89 for the sixth wicket partnership by Damien Trease and Ian Goldsworthy which saw their Troon side over the line.

Visiting skipper Trease scored 51 not out while his colleague hit 46 not out to bring another victory to the team after it looked like there was only going to be one winner.

Brian Fisher, captain of Perranarworthal, won the toss and elected to bat first.

A solid start was made with 43 put on by openers Andrew Brotherton and Lee Coston before both were bowled by William Eva.

After this solid start the innings never got back on track as the hosts were eventually all out for 144 with a five wicket haul from Jamie Goldsworthy proving the most damage.

His brother Lewis picked up three wickets himself.

Despite having a relatively low score to chase, a brilliant spell from opening bowler Trevellyan North saw Troon collapse to 35-4 as he claimed all of their top order batsmen.

When David Taylor got Tom Mitchell out for eight, the score read 56-5 and all the momentum was going in favour of the home side.

It was going to take a fantastic innings to change things around and this is just what happened.

Trease and Goldsworthy stood undeterred at the crease as they gradually dragged their side out of trouble.

The skipper’s half century included seven fours and a six while his partner also found the boundary seven times.
