FALMOUTH'S relegation fears are over following a 32 run win at Callington.

They can rest easy going into Saturday’s final game of the season against in form St Austell at Trescobeas on Saturday.

Looking back, three crucial away wins in the second half of the season ensured the uninterrupted run of top flight cricket at Trescobeas continues.

They won at their main rivals, which has been a telling factor. Redruth failed to pick up a point in the ten wicket defeat at Trewirgie at the end of July.

Similarly Camborne only took a point at Roskear on August Bank Holiday Saturday.

The hat-trick was completed at Moores Park last Saturday with Falmouth’s victory making them safe.

There is still all to play for at the bottom with Redruth’s defeat to St Just by six wickets putting them back at the bottom of the table, ahead of a last day trip to Werrington. The win saw St Just crowned as champions.

Camborne are four points better off thanks to bowling Werrington out, albeit for 253, and they finish at Newquay. Callington are only six points off the bottom and have a tricky trip to St Just to negotiate.

Falmouth’s win was based on a good batting display by the top order. Having been put in Adrian Noott was dismissed by Jim Shorten for ten.

Mark Johnson and Arup Revandkar took the total to 85 before Johnson was caught off Matt Robins for 39. Revandkar continued his good form before going for 38.

This set off a mini collapse however as Antony Angove, who scored 23, Kieran Rodda and Guy Leathley all departed in quick succession. Four wickets had fallen for 13 runs at 132-6.

Stefan Churcher guided the lower order to a useful total of 188-8 in the full 55 overs. He ended on 36 not out with George Popperwell, 15, and Duncan Ayres, 11, offering good support.

Robins bowled his side back into the game taking six for 52 from 15 overs.

Callington got off to a bad start with Glyn Furnival removing James Long, Adrian Robins and Peter Tancock for ducks at 10-3.

Matt Robins held the innings together to make 77 off 102 balls before being ninth out at 133.

He got little support however with Joe White making 13 before number nine Andrew Jones made second top score of 14.

The last pair of Shorten, 12 not out, and Aaron Jewiss, 12, kept the home hopes alive in adding 23 before Revandkar wrapped up the innings at the beginning of the 48th over.
