Penryn 50
St Ives 12

Penryn made it two wins from two securing another try bonus point in the process and brought up a half century against Cornish rivals St. Ives. The borough touched down for eight tries in total, in a comprehensive display that blew the visitors away in the final quarter.

The Borough had the advantage of a home game for the second successive week in the league and made good use of it in the fine conditions once again. The home side displayed the kind of patience that had served them so well in last week's defeat of Sidmouth as they probed away at the hakes. Eventually the pressure told and the Borough opened the scoring after a close range try from Grant Randlesome. Nathan Strick converted and Penryn were off the mark.

The next try came from a superb counter attack, launched deep in Penryn territory. A loose kick by the visitors went through several pairs of Penryn hands, with Adam Hughes finishing the move off in style, Strick this time couldn't add the two.

St. Ives came back though and showed they were a match for Penryn's strong forward pack by driving over for a converted try from a lineout. This only seemed to fuel the fire for the home eight, as they finished the half with a second penalty try in two weeks following a mighty scrum. Strick's conversion made it 19-7 at the break.

Penryn secured the try bonus point and probably the match within minutes of the restart, with a sparkling backs try. An excellently timed inside ball from Andrew Seviour found Josh Chambers steaming through the gap at pace, to splinter the hakes defence before returning the favour to Seviour who touched down.

St Ives again showed great spirit to fight back and added another try out wide, but in truth, even at that stage it was only mere consolation as Penryn piled on the agony. Chambers this time was the beneficiary of a scoring pass courtesy of Ben Jordan as the Borough broke through
at will, Strick added the extra two and Penryn were well out of sight.

Penryn added their sixth and Chambers his second, when another powerful scrum taken against the head by the home pack, saw the ball hacked down field - the wingers pace seeing him first to the ball to collect the score. Strick couldn't add the extras, but Penryn were by no means done.

More excellent quick ball was generated by the forwards to give the backline the kind of space they had thrived on all afternoon. The Borough backs were queuing up out wide and full back Matt Horton was given far too much time and space and raced away to score, which anyone of three hungry Borough support players could have finished.

The half century was fittingly brought up in style by the home side. Captain George Jones caught the restart and set off on a mazy run that took Penryn to within just metres of the hakes line. Quick thinking from Ollie Evans, saw the replacement barrel over under the sticks, with Strick's conversion ending the scoring in a one sided second period.

Penryn take to the road for the first time this season next week, when they travel to newly promoted Tiverton.
