FALMOUTH Gig Club were celebrating on Sunday as their men picked up the County Championship title at Newquay.

The A crew from the club based at the Falmouth School of Sailing were crowned champions for the fourth year in a row.

The victory means the male rowers at the club have won five county titles in their history.

It also added to their success earlier this year in the World Championships in the Isles of Scilly.

The crew rowed their way into the final which featured two boats from Caradon along with teams from Fowey, Penryn and Coverack.

In a close finale, Falmouth managed to pull away from their opposition to finish the course in a time of 28.31, putting them 20 seconds ahead of Caradon A.

The race concluded two days of action which saw 86 crews, mainly from Cornwall with a couple of others from around England, take to the waters around Newquay.
