FALMOUTH Hockey Club’s ladies team will move into the new season full of confidence after winning County Pre-season Tournament.
In the competition held at Richard Lander and Truro School, Falmouth won their group stage games against Penzance, Bodmin, Newquay seconds and Caradon and drew with Duchy to progress to the semi final.
Facing up against Truro, they won through 1-0 to face Newquay’s first team in the final.
They took a 2-1 lead, but with five minutes to go an ambulance had to be called to the pitch after a Newquay player badly injured her ankle, causing a delay to the game.
Once the match had restarted, both sides tried frantically to find another goal and it was Newquay who had the best chance in the dying seconds with a penalty corner.
However, great work from Falmouth captain Megan Cookson blocked the shot on goal in what proved to be the last play.
The teams meet again on Saturday for the opening league game of the season.
