BUDOCK Vean’s senior players were celebrating on Thursday as they retained the Barlow Cup against Merlin Golf Club.

The clubs played the second leg of their tie after Budock won their home match 5-1 last month, meaning they only required 1.5 points to win.

David Gibbons and Roger Mildren grabbed an early half point in their better ball match after putting in a good effort, coming back from two down with the last couple of holes to play.

Victory was secured not long after as David Stevens and Bob Hartnell won their match 3 and 2 to give Budock an unassailable lead.

Another point was earned by Andrew Varney and Robert Johnson with a 2 and 1 win, but the score on the day finished 3.5 - 2.5 to the hosts as their other three pairings came out on top.

This made the final score 7.5 - 4.5 in favour of Budock and Ted Barlow, who created the competition, presented the cup to club captain Paul Upperton.

On Sunday, the gentlemen played the Monthly Medal sponsored by The Red Lion pub in Mawnan Smith.

Stephen Penrose won with a very good net 65, Rob Bryant was second with 66 and Ashley Jackson third, on countback from Tony Ramsden and Chris Mason, with 67.

During the week the Ladies played an EWGA Medal which was won by Nina Hann with 67 and Mo Salome second, on countback from Glenys Bateson, with 68.
