A RECORD was set by Penryn College’s Under 16s netball team as they won the County Championship – for a fifth consecutive year.

Their latest victory, which has given them a place in the national finals in January, has made them the most successful netball team in the school’s history.

They progressed through the Cornwall tournament with comfortable victories, including winning games 20-2 and 18-1, before beating Truro School in the semi final to set up a showdown with Penair.

It was a tense affair with the match going into extra time after ending 4-4.

But the Penryn girls were able to step proceedings up another level to set up an 8-5 win.

Coach Renata Frucella was delighted to see the team claim the crown again.

“I’m so pleased for the girls,” she said.

“They’re an incredible team.

“It is a massive achievement to win the championship five years on the trot and they’ve done it by staying motivated, encouraging each other and excellent team work.”

The squad were: Hope Lushington, Mollie Martin, Lara Jones, Emily Coltman, Rosy Holliday, Clara Husbands, Isabel Berks, Isabel Classey, Rea Richardson, Bronwyn Casterton, Mhairi MacLeod.
