BUDOCK Vean progressed through to the second round of the Frank Wills Salver after beating Killiow at Falmouth on Saturday.

During the match with the players from each club split into five pairs, Budock managed to record a 3-2 victory to make it into the quarter finals due to take place early next year.

Early wins for the duos of Carl Templeton and Stephen Crouch and Tony Ramsden and Geoff Mills helped set up the victory.

Killiow won the next two ties to set up a crucial final game which John Rule and Ashley Jackson managed to swing in favour of Budock on the 17th hole.

A day later, members played for the Monthly Medal sponsored by MS Electrical of Mawnan Smith and an outstanding score of 60 from David Tippett saw him romp home with the title.

His closest rival was Paul Davis who finished second with his round of 67.

The seniors were also in action during the week as they faced off with Porthpean on a damp and misty day.

Despite the foggy conditions threatening a call-off at one point, the weather cleared enough for the game to continue with the end result being a 3-3 draw.

Also on the course were the ladies who had a Stableford competition.

This was won on countback by Shirley Mildren after she, Jill Sulley and Lesley Upperton all got total scores of 34.
