A LONG trip to Somerset ended in misery for the ladies at Falmouth Hockey Club on Saturday.
They travelled to the county to face Somerset Gryphons and despite putting in a spirited effort, the team came back to Cornwall with a 3-2 defeat.
The opening ten minutes were quite even before the hosts took the lead with a clinical move, passing the ball around the pitch.
Pressure kept being piled on the Falmouth defence but some telling deflections from Megan Cookson kept the score at 1-0.
Falmouth did get some momentum by the end of the half and a ball into the box from Rachel Tatlow was slotted home by Emily James.
Kat Barbery-Redd then made it 2-1 for the visitors as she leapt onto a loose ball and fired a shot past the goalkeeper.
However, Gryphons equalised after winning a controversial penalty corner with Falmouth believing there had been no obvious foul.
From the set piece, Cookson got a deflection on the shot which unfortunately steered the ball past Hannah Bowman.
In the final ten minutes as Falmouth tired, Gryphons attacked hard with Bowman having to make a number of superb saves.
But the pressure finally told after a series of penalty corners saw the hosts sweep a shot in at the back post and secure a 3-2 win.
