PENRYN Saracens came out on top in their derby against Falmouth One and All on Boxing Day, writes Jack Thomas.

The conditions for the much hyped match were less than favourable with the pre-game warm ups taking place in the driving rain.

Falmouth kicked off the proceedings to begin what was anticipated to be an exciting match between the two local sides.

The early moments were tightly fought within the midfield with both sides having spells on the ball until Penryn lock Jack Heazelton found himself in acres of space, out pacing the visiting backs and diving under the posts to open the scoring.

This settled the borough into the match and centre Chris Hellier threw himself over the line to double the score.

Saracen's defence was as strong as it has been all season with some impressive tackling from Will Paine, CJ Timmins and Ben Trevaskis.

Darting winger Jake Bailey continued the dominant performance adding the third try of the morning.

Heazelton was then bundled over the line for his second of the day following a fantastic effort by the borough forwards.

Falmouth retained a good spell of possession at the start of the second half and were rewarded with a try which took the Saracens defence by surprise.

Robert Banks replied immediately with gusto, further advancing the Borough scoreline.

The One and All capitalised on a momentary lapse in the Saracens concentration cross the line for their second.

Falmouth were then camped on the Borough line thanks to the consistent handling errors from Saracens, but some valiant defending from Bailey, Alan Richards, Aaron Cockrell and Dan Woodside saved the borough from conceding another try.

Some fancy footwork from Hellier mesmerised the Falmouth defence who were unable to stop the centres powerful run.

Oliver Evans scored Penryn's final try of the day, but then almost immediately in the interest of sportsmanship, perhaps, gifted Falmouth their final try of the morning with a lovely floating pass into the oppositions hands.

After the game, both sets of players thanked their fans who braved the weather to watch.
