A WEEK after her male counterpart had done the same, Nina Hann signalled the start of her reign as Budock Vean’s ladies’ skipper.
Despite having to play in wet and windy conditions, she hosted the Lady Captain’s Drive-In on the course.
However, the adverse weather would eventually put pay to the event with the females retiring to the clubhouse.
Conditions were slightly better for players when a good turnout came to the course for the Cross Country Texas Scramble competition, played over ten holes.
Defending champions David Penrose, Bob Hartnell, Kevin Bate and Stephen Penrose repeated their achievement from 2014 to claim the title with a net score of 33.7.
Finishing second were Richard Whatmore, Chris Mason, Marcus Johnson and David Tippett with 35.2.
The following day, the club went to Newquay Golf Club to play St Austell in the quarter finals of the Frank Wills Salver.
They put in a valiant effort but eventually lost 4-1 with Stephen Penrose and Martin Rule scoring the club’s point after winning their match 4 and 3.
David Gudzij and Ashley Jackson came back from two down with three to play in their match to start the final hole all square.
Sadly for the duo, they hit two bunkers on the 18th which opened the door for their opponents to take the narrowest of victories.
