A TOUGH test was overcome by Falmouth on Saturday as they defeated third placed Blandford & Struminster Newton 2-1.

The visitors showed why they are high in the league table by taking the lead early on at Penryn College when a ball out from the defence was mishit and gathered up by the attackers and dispatched past Hannah Bowman.

Falmouth's goalkeeper had to make a string of fine saves to keep the hosts in the game.

After weathering the storm, Falmouth started getting a grip of the match with Hanna Royle putting in a stellar performance supporting the front line.

Just before half time an equaliser was scored when a quick break down the right saw Rachael ping the ball into the D where Sam Dunstan was waiting at the far post to slot it home.

Amy Tatlow then added a second after reacting fastest to a save shot from a penalty corner to rebound the ball into the goal.

Both sides pushed up in the second half in search for more scores to create an entertaining tussle, but Falmouth held on to the result.
