PLAYERS from Falmouth have progressed to the next round of the Mail on Sunday National Golf Club Classic after beating Truro on Saturday.
In cold, clear conditions, the visitors defeated their hosts 3.5 – 1.5 in the tie which featured five singles games and will now play Killiow in the third round.
Wins for Falmouth on the day came from Ben Browning, Paul Collins and Nicky Chinn, the latter sealing victory with his success over Jake Finn with a birdie on the 18th hole.
Mark Carter halved the last game with Joe Raymond while Roger Fairburn put up a good fight against Phil Hodges, but could not overcome the Truro man.
Back at the club, a monthly Stableford was played by Ladies members with Carmel Conners coming first with 36 points ahead of Jane Wooldridge on 32 and Ali Samuel, 31.
They also contested their Winter League competition, played over 14 holes, which the duo of Mo Hammond and Sally Ingle won with a score of 28.
Great celebrations were also had at the club as Sue Short banged in a hole in one on the 11th during the Californian Scramble.
This helped her team which featured Hammond and Letitia Rivett-Old to victory with a net score of 68.
