RECOGNITION has been given to Packet sports reporter George Thorpe after he was nominated for a national award.
The 28-year-old who joined the paper last June has been shortlisted in the Weekly Sports Reporter of the Year category for the Regional Press Awards.
Run by the Society of Editors, journalists from across the country enter with the award ceremony taking place at the Marriott Grosvenor Square Hotel in London on May 15.
Speaking after finding out about his nomination, Thorpe said: “To throw an old cliche out, it is a big enough honour for me to be shortlisted, so if I don’t win then I will not be overly disappointed.
“It is a strong field that I’m up against, but you have to be in it to win it, so I will still keep hoping.”
