A FRESH south westerly wind with some very strong gusts up to 30 knots greeted the competitors on Friday night, writes Stephen Nicholls.

Consequently, some of the competitors chose to put a reef in the mainsail and a few wished they had.

E Class made an excellent start except for General Khaos which was over the line.

They all enjoyed a fast sail, with Aura leading the fleet throughout the race and was first on corrected time with Adelie second and 4Play third.

In the U Class, Mary Boon flew her spinnaker from the the St Just buoy up to the leeward Turnaware mark on the first lap.

However, Wizard of Clee was first over the line and won on corrected time with Tomaray second and Mary Boon third.

Q Class were rather line shy at the start, but then had a close race all finishing within a minute of each other.

Tilly of Mylor was award first place followed by Challonise and Mara.

A quartet of Shrimpers came to the line, the first bunch seen so far this season in H Class.

The race was shortened to one lap of the triangular course with just over a minute separating the four boats.

First over the line was Henrietta followed by Dawn of Polruan and third Pelican, sailed single handed by Richard Lewis.
