IT was the first beautiful evening of the year as under a blue sky a force three north easterly bustled down the Penryn River for racing at Flushing Sailing Club, writes Harold Martin.
A total of 31 boats jostled close together looking for the pin end which was set perfectly but a long way from the committee boat.
As twelve boats in Q Class crossed the line, Elsa was called out as over before the signal and so they had to return and start again.
In flat water and light airs Per Elisa quickly got away and finished well over a minute before Orijin who in turn lead from Jalabeano and Jackdaw.
U Class saw nine boats head for the line and after the gun went, Hecate had good boat speed we held their starboard course towards the end of the eastern arm.
All the others tacked onto port and sailed North across the mouth of the harbour into lighter airs, but the breeze freed and freshened so when Hecate tacked for the buoy, they found ourselves well in the lead.
This lead was maintained for the rest of the race and the crew finished 2:30 ahead of Wilkie.
In B Class, Grace and Cousin Jinnie had an evening match racing enjoying the cut and thrust of close competition.
General Khaos crossed the line more than ten minutes ahead of their only rival, Sweet Friday, in W Class.
