MEMBERS of Mullion Golf Club organised a Texas Scramble competition to raise money for Shelter Box and the people of Nepal caught up in the recent earthquake.

Players from across Cornwall took part in the contest with a total of £700 being raised in aid of the Helston-based charity.

Prizes for the day were donated by West Cornwall, Launceston and Perranporth Golf Clubs while Westley Garage also provided sponsorship.

The winning quartet were Tony Ramsden, Chris Ramsden, Gordon Tamblyn and Mark Twynham with a score of 58.1.

Brian Wearing, Roy Dixon, Peter Robinson and Paul Head came second with a score of 61.1 and third place went to Rebecca Gush, Elaine McCorkill, Yvonne Ratcliffe and Christine Cartwright, who finished on 61.4.

On Sunday, the course played host to the Polurrian Hotel Open, which is played over 36 holes in sunny conditions.

Topping the leaderboard was Falmouth Golf Club's George Popperwell with 78 points, beating Kyle Fraser by three.
