AS the 2014/15 Cornwall Multi-terrain Series draws to a close, Mile High's Dave Angell claimed a stage win at the Meet Your Max race in Truro, writes Alan Rowling.

In the eighth meet of the season, Angell ran a shrewd tactical race, content to let Dominic Bateman of Bodmin Road Runners set the early pace, followed by Newquay Road Runner Tony Wright.

Approaching a wooded section on this interesting but challenging off road course, Angell moved ahead of Newquay's Alex Daniels and across the fields at around five miles, caught and then passed Wright, with Bateman having slipped back by this point.

Once in the lead, there was no way the Mile High runner was going to be caught, winning by over half a minute from Wright, with the Enys 10K winner Ian Ferguson, Falmouth Road Runners, coming through into third place.

After recovering from his exertions, Angell said: “Naturally very pleased with my run this evening.

"I planned to start at a reasonable pace, keeping the leaders in sight, then intending to move through after half way and so I am delighted that everything worked out on this tough course.”

In the women's race, Emma Schuck of Hayle Runners finished first to retain her title, completing the course 45 seconds faster than last year.

Success was had in the age categories by Falmouth Road Runners with a one-two in the Ladies 60-64 age group, won by the evergreen Janet Watson with Beverley Dalton in second position.

Another Falmouth Road Runner, Ian Ferguson, enjoyed a successful evening not only winning a prize for finishing third in the overall race, but also scooped another award by winning the 35-39 category.

The club’s run of success continued in the men’s under 35 section, where Tom Carthey finished second and in the 40-44 age group, where Richard Keefe finished third.

Cornwall Athletic Club’s Karen Harrison, who lives in Helston, completed the group of six local age group prize winners, finishing third in the ladies 45-49 category.
