PLAYERS from across Cornwall and Devon went down to Mullion Golf Course on Thursday for the Dennis Bray Senior Open.

The competition was held as part of the club's festival week and more than 60 entrants took part in the contest played under the Stableford scoring format.

A challenging breeze blew across the course but the sun was also out and providing lovely conditions for the golfers, with many praising the quality of the greens prepared by the staff.

It was a local player who bagged the top prize with Jimmy Stewart winning the cup with his score of 38 points beating Tehidy's Doug White by one.

Coming third on countback was China Fleet Club member Graham Clatworthy, who nudged past St Enodoc's Doug Barber and Mullion's Arthur King, who also scored 37.

The best visitor prize went to Gavin Greenfield who finished on 36 points.

A day earlier, the club hosted the ever popular Four-man Open Team event with plenty of quartets taking to the course for the competition.

With the best two scores counting, it was a close encounter but eventually Ian Oliver, Tony Woodhams, Chris Rosevear and Scott Patterson won on countback with their total of 117.

Finishing second where the foursome of Mark Twynham, Alan Carey, James Hale and Sean Flynn while Alan Price, Brian Wooller, Simon Bindon and Simon Meridew came third.
