A FOUNDING member of Budock Vean Golf Club was commemorated on Sunday as an annual competition in his memory was played.

The George Benney Memorial Trophy was up for grabs again and the title was eventually taken by David Penrose after he carded a net score of 66.

Kevin Bate finished second on countback from Granville Williamson after both ended on 67.

Benney helped form the club, acting as captain in 1966 and 1981 before spending six years as president starting in 1988, and his son Edward was on hand to present the trophy to Penrose.

He also presented the Benney Shield and Ruberry Cup, which were played for in June, to Roger Mildren and Andrew Varney respectively during the ceremony.

In the seniors' Monthly Medal, Tony Grace won with a net 66 while Andrew Varney came second a shot behind him.

The ladies played for an EWGA Medal, staying out despite having thunder clapping in the background, with Nina Hann claiming the victory with 66.
