RECORD numbers of crews competed for the coveted Working Boat World Championship title over the weekend.
The competition was held for the 11th time between Friday and Saturday with four races hosted by St Mawes Sailing Club with 19 boats entering this year.
At the end of it all, a dominant display from Adam Bird's Leila with three individual victories saw the C Class crown go to the him for the fifth time, while John Andrew skippered Demelza to the title in B during a close contest.
Fresh easterly winds greeted the sailors in Friday's opening race and Demelza set her stall out early with a victory on corrected time ahead of Endevour, being raced for the first time in nearly a decade, and 2013 and 2014 champion Rita finishing third.
Racing later in the day had to be abandoned with the decision taken to move it to Saturday, with wins coming for Grace and Rita in B before Demelza added another win in the second afternoon ahead of Abigail Rose and Moon.
The final race saw five boats all with a chance of overall victory and in blustery conditions, Endevour won but could not grab the crown as Demelza came in ten seconds behind her to claim the trophy by a point.
Proceedings were easier for Leila as the trio of victories gave her the lowest possible score, with Bird able to discard the second place finish recorded in the other race.
An auction was held during the prize giving with a total of £1,921 being raised for the competition's official charity, the Roseland Youth Sailing Trust.
