A TEENAGER from Truro is set to follow in the footsteps of athletes like Adam Gemili and Katarina Johnson-Thompson after being selected to compete at the Sainsbury's Schools Games.

Alfie Peters will be taking part in the cycling event at the competition in Manchester being held between September 3 and 6, which will see more than 1,600 young athletes participating.

The 14-year-old Penair School pupil is part of the South West team at the games which has seen many of its past competitors go on to feature on the world stage.

Looking ahead to the event, Peters said: "I am immensely proud to be selected for the Sainsbury's 2015 School Games.

"I just missed out on selection last year so it has meant a lot of dedication to my training and racing to qualify for the team this year."
