BOATS moved onto the start line for the opening Falmouth Boat Construction 'C' Series race of the season at Mylor Yacht Club.

Competition was split between four classes and in U, Lez Beez Neez and Nirvana both made excellent beginnings to their race from opposite ends of the line, but Wizard of Clee set up a substantial lead after the first windward leg.

However, when the spinnakers came out, the fleet began to overtake her with Mary Boon edging ahead, but Wizard soon retook the lead after being forced to tack through the Q fleet.

She got over the line first, but on handicap the top placing was given to Beez Neez.

Rococo dominated proceedings in Q as she raced out in front and proved impossible to catch with the other boats being forced to battle for second and third, which went to Topst and Chalonnaise respectively.

H Class saw five Shrimpers enter and Brian Phipps skippered Ysella into a commanding lead which earned the first victory ahead of Jenessa and Pelican.

In E Class, Jab Jab made her debut and soon got to the head of the fleet only to be pegged back by the fleet.

Mike Lithgow made the most of the conditions onboard Nightowler to win the race ahead of 4Play and Talitha.
