JOSH Chaplin shot a fine round of 63 to pick up the Millennium Trophy at Mullion Golf Club.

The competition is a popular one at the venue with the prize being among the prettiest available to members.

Strong southerly winds blew across the course as a strong field stepped up to the tee.

Chaplin, who has a handicap of three, equalled the course record with his score, which put him seven ahead of club captain Nigel Thwaites.

Wesley Langley was award third place on countback after he and Steve Caddy both scored 71.

A couple of other prizes were fought for at the club during the week with the Mullion Cove Cup and Danby Cup being contested.

Ashley Spinks scored 41 Stableford points, which was good enough to claim the Cove prize, finishing two ahead of Chris Timmins with Neil Carpenter third.

Claiming the Danby Cup was Paul McHugh with his fine score of 46.

This put him well in front of the field with Scott Paterson a distant second on 39 and Terry Potter third with 38.
