HIGH-FLYING antics across bumps, off road tracks and rocks left spectators watching in awe at Pennance Mill Farm over the weekend - with success for Cornish cyclists too.

Rounds four and five of the British 4X Championship came to Falmouth Bike Park on Saturday and Sunday with some of the best riders from across Great Britain pedalling around the course.

The races saw competitors navigate around a series of tight corners, rocky patches and jumps on mountain bikes at high speed.

Hosting the event were Carrick Riders who also finished the meet in second place overall in the Team Cup, which was won by Slam 69 Gravity Team.

This was not the only trophy fought for over the weekend as the rounds also made up the final two stages of the individual competitions.

For the women, Dirt Bike School team member and Penryn College student Tyde D'Souza won the top prize after finishing first on Saturday before consolidating this with a silver the following day.

There was a battle between Duncan Ferris and Nathan Parsons in the men's section with the first day seeing the latter finishing one place above his rival on the podium in second, with Blake Neilsen snatching gold.

However, 24 hours later Ferris put in a determined performance to fight his way into a thrilling finale which saw the DMR Bikes rider bag first place and the overall title.

Alongside the seniors, hundreds of other cyclists took to the track during the races with ages ranging from ten-years-old, with Falmouth rider Charles Currie finishing second overall in the 15-16 age category.

Derek Heelis, owner of Falmouth Cycles and Carrick Riders founding member, said: "The weekend was a tremendous success and to have success for Cornish riders made it even better.

"We want to encourage local people to give the sport a go as we have a fantastic facility and a strong following down here, as shown by the results."
