GREY and murky conditions welcomed crews for the penultimate race of the Falmouth Boat Construction Series at Mylor Yacht Club, writes Stephen Nicholls.

At the start of the race a southerly breeze was blowing across the course, but this soon shifted west before dying.

In E Class, there was a good start with the boats having to go with the incoming tide or tacking towards the shore, with conditions overall suiting the lighter yachts.

Picking up the victory was John Kulpa's 4Play with Joker, the boat crewed by charity Mylor Sailability, coming second and Alex Davis onboard Tressa third.

A fleet of six shrimpers entered the race with Henrietta, Jenessa and Sophie all moving away from the group.

By the end, it was the first of these boats, captained by Michael Wilson, who topped the podium ahead of Jenessa, who had Mark Lewis in charge.

Q Class had their race shortened to just one round as the mist and wind strength lowered.

Stephen Pendray's Chalonnaise was first across the line, but lost out on handicap to Topsy, skippered by Tony O'Hanlon, while Tilly of Mylor was awarded second.

The conditions proved to be very testing for U Class, but a thrilling finish took place as John Cruise could not make the most of the spinnaker being deployed on Mary Boon as both Lez Beez Neez and Wizard of Clee pipped her on the line.
