Hayle Runners took one of their shorter trips to compete in the Cornwall multi-terrain series by taking part in the Race for Wildlife organised by Mounts Bay Harriers on Sunday. 20 members of the club ran in the race which took competitors from the start at Penwith College in Penzance uphill through Heamoor and Madron before cutting across fields and muddy footpaths onto the rough track past Ding Dong mine and then some respite running downhill back to Heamoor with a slight uphill finish at the rear of the college.

Rich Savage lead the Hayle team home with a fantastic run taking 5th place overall and winning his 50-54 age group. He was followed by Kieran Murrant who showed how much he relishes multi -terrain events by putting in a strong run. They were supported in the men's team by Andy Moore who took 2nd place in his 55-59 age group and Jim Swetnam who was running in his debut in a multi terrain race.

One unusual aspect of the race was that the team from Hayle Runners was overwhelmingly female with 16 of the club's 20 runners in the race being women. Debbie Harrison led the women home and took second place in her 45-49 age group. She was supported by Fay Savage who won her 40-44 age group and by Louise Ollivier and Sharon Lamerton who helped the team to 4th place overall. There were some good performances further down the Hayle team, with most notably Fran Long who only started running with the club this summer, getting her first individual trophy by coming second in her 55-59 age group.

Hayle Runners have their training nights on Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm.On Tuesday the club runs from Hayle Rugby Club behind M+S where runners of all abilities are welcome to join 8-10 differently paced groups led by qualified Leaders and Coaches. Beginners are particularly welcomed on a Tuesday evening where a walk/ run group is supported by dedicated Leaders. On Tuesday 15th December the club will be having their annual run to Mousehole lights and will meet at 6-45pm at the car park opposite the Jubilee Pool. Festive apparel is recommended and there will be a social evening afterwards at the Dock Inn.

On Thursday evenings at 7pm a structured track session is held at Carn Brea Leisure Centre where a programme of training led by the clubs coaches is open to members and non members.
