Hayle Runners were quick off the mark in the new year to get their running underway. A group from the club ran on New Years Day across the fields and paths of Gwinear .
The routes started and finish at the Hayle for Gwinear where hot soup, coffee and cake was available to the group. Organised by club member Howard Haynes the various routes offered distances from 4 to 11 miles and raised money for Children's Hospice South West.
Further afield another group of Hayle Runners travelled to take part in the traditional New years day Brown Willy Run.The informal run is organised by Truro Running Club and Hayle Runners Andy Jukes,Sarah Newing,Louise Ollivier ,Mike Penberthy and Loyd Purvis joined the group taking part in the event running
The route is around 7 miles in length from Jamaica Inn across Bodmin Moor and up and down Brown Willy ( the highest point in Cornwall) .The route is mainly open moorland ,steep in places and very exposed to high winds.Given the recent weather the route was particularly wet, slippery and boggy which made it particularly challenging for the runners.
