HOT on the heels of winning two awards from Sport England, Mylor Sailability has received more recognition.

After winning the South West and Cornwall award for Best New Project two months ago, the club for disabled adults and children has won the Royal Yachting Association's Volunteer Award for Outstanding Contribution.

It is a national award from the governing body of sailing and powerboating. There are three awards given each year for volunteers throughout the 201 RYA Sailability centres nationwide.

Tracey Boyne, who runs the project based at Mylor Yacht Harbour, said: “I am so honoured to have been nominated, let alone actually win this award. This one is personally to me, I was secretly nominated by one of my friends.”

The RYA requested letters of support from a couple of people with whom Tracey has been working quite closely.

They were Roger Graffy, owner of Mylor Yacht Harbour, who has given Tracey "monumental support" during the process of getting Mylor Sailability up and running; also Peter Dallow, of Age UK, with whom Mylor Sailability have a joint funding grant to get people aged 50 and over with a disability on the water.

Tracey will attend an RYA Sailability Awards Dinner in Bedford next month, at which she receive her award.

She added: "All this great news will hopefully reach more people with disabilities and learning difficulties in Cornwall to enable them to take part in sailing or powerboating and stay active."

The Mylor Sailability Charity is the charitable arm of Mylor Sailing & Powerboat School and is run on donations and grants. Mylor Sailability also has a volunteer program to gain a Sports Leader Award in conjunction with Age UK.

All people with disabilities, and learning difficulties welcome from the ages of 8 to 108.

Mylor Sailability had a wheelchair friendly powerboat donated in Autumn 2015 and are currently fundraising for a new sailing boat to enable wheelchair users that cannot sit unaided to be hoisted into this boat and into a support seat.
